Rack Log – Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Rack Log (app identifier com.sogerg.materielescalade) is a logbook for climbing equipment. This page describes what the app actually does with your data.
No data collection
The app requires no account. Your logbook (racks, gear, sessions, inspections, photos) is never sent to any server, ours or anyone else's. It contains no advertising, no analytics and no trackers. All tracking features work offline.
Purchases (Rack Log Pro)
Rack Log Pro (monthly or yearly subscription, or lifetime purchase) is bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Payment is processed by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies; we never receive your payment details. To verify and restore a purchase, the app uses the RevenueCat service, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier generated by the app and the transaction information passed on by the store (product bought, date, store country). No logbook data is sent to it. This is the app's only network exchange, and it only happens to buy or verify Pro.
On iPhone, the 21-day free period is handled by the app: the date of first launch is stored in the iPhone keychain (no Face ID) and in a small private file, on the device only.
Retirement alerts and your data always stay available, with or without Pro; the JSON backup is free.
What is stored, and where
- Your racks, gear items (type, make and model, dates, notes), sessions, falls, events, inspections and settings are stored in the app's private storage, on your phone only.
- Photos you add to an item are copied into the app's private folder on your phone.
- This data only leaves the phone if you choose to share a PDF record or a JSON backup yourself (through the system share sheet, to the app of your choice).
Permissions
- Camera: requested only when you tap “Camera” to photograph an item (for example the label of a rope showing its manufacture date).
- Photo library: the app opens the system photo picker when you tap “Photo library”; only the photo you pick is passed to the app.
- The microphone is never used; the app does not request your location.
External links
The “Sources” screen can open public documents from manufacturers and the UIAA in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy policies.
Deletion
You can delete an item, a session, an event or a photo in the app. Uninstalling the app erases all of its data from the phone.
Children
The app collects no personal data, including from children. Only an optional Pro purchase goes through the store and RevenueCat, as described above.
Responsibility
Rack Log shows recommendations drawn from public sources and never states that a piece of equipment is safe. The pre-use inspection, the manufacturer's instructions and the user's judgement always come first.
